Cincy Black Pride celebrates Inaugural Vizazi Torch Award Recipients
VIZAZI: a Swahili word meaning GENERATIONS
In celebration of the rich legacy and promising future of Black LGBTQ+ Family in Cincinnati we are hosting the Inaugural Vizazi Torch Awards. The event is the official kickoff event for Cincinnati Black Pride, and will be held Tuesday June 18th at Socialtique, a new, sophisticated Black lesbian owned social boutique in Cincinnati's Northside neighborhood. This year's awards honor 12 Cincinnatians committed to advancing and improving the quality of life for Black Queer and Trans folks. Recipients were nominated in the following three categories : Spark, Ember, & Flame
SPARK: Every fire begins with a spark. This award recognizing the efforts of youth and young professionals in our community aged 29 and under. These individuals are innovators, change makers, and brave truth tellers.
2019 Recipients: KeShawn Townsend and Ariel Mary Ann
EMBER: Embers keep the fire alive and are often important and critical bridges between our elders and youth. These individuals have often accomplished a great deal and are best marked by their drive, initiative, and resilience. These nominees will be ages 30 - 49.
2019 Recipients: Jennifer Ingram, Rev. Derek Terry, Tim'm West
Kimisha Maull (DJ Kaotic), and Meredith Shockley-Smith
FLAME: The light in the heart of the Elders both warms, and guides the way. This award recognizes members of our community aged 50 and above. These individuals are history bearers, trailblazers and wisdom carriers.
